I often get asked about my process for creating my paintings. Rather than just tell you, I thought I'd take you on a visual journey of when I painted Mt Bachelor in 2019, from start to finish.
Mt Bachelor is the largest ski resort in Oregon, located just outside of Bend. It is the second largest single-mountain ski resort in the United States, coming in behind Vail. The resort boasts a lift-served vertical drop of 3,365 feet and is famous for its dry snow.
I start my process with a thumbnail sketch of the mountain.
Next, I continue with a full sized sketch, in detail.
From there, I begin roughing in the full painting based on the detailed sketch.
You can start to see Mt Bachelor come to life!
Next come the trees, runs, and other mountain details.
And finally, the completed painting.
I'm so glad you joined me in this journey through my creative process.
