Sun Valley in Ketchum, Idaho

Painted in 2011

After many years Sun Valley continues to be at the pinnacle of skiing excellence. It is the gold standard for the high-end skiing experience. After all, it’s home to the first chairlift in North America, and Ketchum has long been pitched as a retreat for the rich and famous. But you don’t need to be an A-lister to appreciate everything that Sun Valley offers to skiers. With 3,400 feet of vertical and over 2,000 acres of skiable terrain, Sun Valley will make every skier happy. 220 inches of snow per year keep things soft, and Sun Valley’s excellent grooming program ensures that the cut runs are always pristine. So, whether you’re looking to lay down trenches and rip GS turns down a groomer, zipper line some moguls, or practice your switchups on rails, Sun Valley has the terrain for you.

The legendary James Niehues

If you are a skier or snowboarder, there is a good chance James Niehues has been your mountain guide. Throughout his 30 year career he has worked at the  smallest hills and the most expansive resorts in North America. He has left his mark in South America, Australia, Asia and Europe too. And even if you have never shared a bottomless powder day with him, he has always been close by.
