Artwork backstory

Olympic Valley, California

Painted in 2008

If Olympic Valley California isn’t the birthplace of showboating, flashy, “Hollywood style” extreme skiing, it’s at least had an outsized impact on the genre. A hundred professional skiing careers have been born on these slopes, and tens of thousands more have had their “best day ever” making turns on this mountain. Now named Palisades at Tahoe, the resort is home to some of the most iconic terrain on the west coast, and this ski map captures it all. From KT-22 to the Eagle’s Nest, every detail of the mountain was captured in loving brush strokes by James Niehues in 2008.
